Emergence
My father gave me my first guitar when I was 13 years old: I played quite a bit over the ensuing years, but when Lori and I started our family, I found myself with little time for music. By the time our oldest son, William, was 5, I hadn't played in years. One day I picked up a guitar in a store and began playing it. I looked up to see the astonishment on William's face. He said "Daddy, I didn't know you could play guitar -- it works!" I realized that my children didn't know I was a musician. That day changed my life. I began playing again: mostly for myself but then later for family and friends. In fact, it was their encouragement that led to this CD. It is my "emergence" from playing only for family and friends to sharing my music with others. The songs are all jazz standards - I began playing solo guitar but in time added string bass, flute, 'cello and even my father, Frank, on piano, to allow for greater musical exploration.
I used artwork done by William for the cover since he got everything started. I hope you, the listener, enjoy this music; if you do, please thank my family and friends -- their support made this possible.

What others are saying about Emergence...
The late Chuck Denson had this to say about Paul's playing on Emergence:
"I'm enjoying listening to it very much. I'm trying to recognize the style but can't do it completely. He reminds me a bit of Tony Mottola, a bit of Johnny Smith. But, with the heavy bass line, he reminds me of an excellent Oregon guitar player named Buddy Fite. Still, he has enough individualism to have a nice style all his own. Among guitar players such as Paul, I'm only a spectator. I feel that he can play anything he wants to play. Most talented and obviously has been dedicated enough to learn a most difficult style of guitar playing. My hat is off to him."
Jazz guitarist and former guitar instructor at Berklee College of Music Steve Carter remarked,
"I liked what I heard.... I like his chords and his moving lines are especially nice."
Kansas City guitarist Adam Wilke commented while listening,
"He's good; really good -- a real hipster!"
And jazz pianist/vocalist Tony Gulizia said,
"Great! Exciting! Talented use of chords; something to be proud of!"
