From Sea To Shining Sea -- A Celebration Of Who We Are & Where We Come From is the theme of the 2005-2006 Albion Area Arts Council performing season.

The year begins with Belgrade, NE native, Lori Adams, in her critically acclaimed one-woman portrayal of 19th century actress and abolitionist, Fanny Kemble. Ms. Adams brings this important heroine from America’s past to life using authentic settings, costume and speech. Step back in time with Fanny Kemble in Shame The Devil October 9th at 7:30 pm at the Boone Central Gym in Albion.

“A tour-de-force performance not to be missed…” -- Marcia Weiss, The Pantograph

Poet laureate of the United States and 2005 Pulitzer Prize winner for poetry, Ted Kooser of Garland, NE, will read and discuss his poetry at St. Michael’s church in Albion, on the evening of November 6th at 7:30 pm. A reception and book signing will follow in the church basement (books will be available for purchase at this event).

December brings Home for the Holidays with area musicians performing at the Boone Central Gym. The concert begins at 7:00 pm, December 4th and will feature the talents of Diego Ayala, Pat Boilesen, Keri Brugger, Jill Nore, Paradise and Janet Rieck.

In the Spring, taking the place of the now-defunct Nebraska Theatre Caravan, the Nebraska Repertory Theatre will present “Wiley and the Hairy Man”, a theatrical adaptation of a legend from the swamps of the old South for area school children and the general public at the Boone Central Gym . This production teaches the importance of facing one’s fears and having confidence in one’s self. A delight for young and old alike. (Date and time to be announced.)

The Albion Area Arts Council, in recognition of its dedication to bringing quality artists to rural areas, was one of only six arts councils chosen from across the state to receive a free residency by internationally-known classical guitarist, Robert Bluestone of Santa Fe. Mr. Bluestone will bring his warm, relaxed, informal style and virtuoso musicianship to schools and other locations throughout our area. Please join us to hear why Mr. Bluestone’s performances have been called “a fairy tale-like magical extravaganza that takes one’s mind to a far-off land…“ (Lariat -- Saddleback College) Exact times and locations will be announced closer to this event.

Tonic Sol Fa is back by popular demand on April 8th. This favorite a cappella vocal group will hold a Question and Answer session in the Boone Central Multipurpose Gym at 6:30 pm followed by a concert at 7:00 pm in the Boone Central Gym.

This summer Albion will be hosting Chautauqua 2006. This six-day, activity-packed event will be held July 6-11. The theme will be From Sea To Shining Sea and will focus on the time period from 1790-1850. Among the historical characters featured will be William Clark and Tecumseh. The Chautauqua will address the westward exploration and encounters with Native peoples. There will be many related events taking place throughout the community so watch for articles, ads and posters for more information!

A season ticket purchased from an Albion Area Arts Council board member will give you free admission to all of these events. Admission at the door of each performance in $10 per adult and $5 per student so a season ticket is a great value!
